[ARCHIVED] Recycling Services in Unincorporated Areas Temporarily Suspended

Waste Management Services During Hurricane Sally

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, September 17th, Waste Management will temporarily suspend service of recycling carts for residents in the unincorporated areas of Jackson County due to damages to their recycling facility in Florida. Garbage service will continue as scheduled.

Waste Management, the solid waste contractor for residents in the unincorporated areas of Jackson County, transports Jackson County recyclables to the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) Recycling Facility near Pensacola, Florida. Waste Management has informed the County that the ECUA Recycling Facility was greatly impacted by Hurricane Sally and is closed until further notice. This facility is the only recycling facility in our region, therefore, Waste Management has asked that curbside recycling collection be suspended until the ECUA Recycling Facility is back up and running.

Jackson County and Waste Management will continue to work together on a solution and hope that the ECUA recycling facility can open soon. We will keep resident’s posted on when the curbside recycle service will resume.

Household Garbage Services: Due to residential service being suspended on Tuesday, September 15th, the garbage collection is still one day behind this week. Tuesday’s service day is picked up Wednesday, Wednesday’s service day is picked up Thursday, Thursday’s service day is picked up Friday and Friday’s service day is picked up Saturday. Residents should call Waste Management at 228-818-5393 if their garbage is or was missed.
