JACKSON COUNTY, MS Implements CivicReady Mass Notification System
Jackson County has partnered with CivicReady to implement its mass notification system. This system allows Jackson County Office of Emergency Management to issue urgent notifications, emergency instructions, warnings (including severe weather alerts), and even routine communications to citizens who have subscribed to this service. Citizens can register by visiting the Jackson County Website at www.co.jackson.ms.us, and clicking Emergency Notification Sign Up page directly.
When registering, citizens have the option to receive notifications via email, text message, and voicemail. There is also a downloadable app in English or in any of the additional 62 available languages. Once registered you may opt-out at any time.
This system will also upload specific emergency notifications to Jackson County, Mississippi Facebook Page which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/jacksoncountyms/.
“This will provide vital information that will keep citizens safe and informed, said Donald Langham, Jackson County Emergency Management Coordinator. “CivicReady takes the place of CODE RED, our previous emergency alert system.”
The CivicReady system also integrates with the statewide Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the national Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS), which includes national emergency communication channels, such as the Emergency Alert System (EAS), NOAA weather radios, and digital road signage. Additionally, it gives the Office of Emergency Management the ability to send text-like, wireless emergency alerts (WEA) to subscribers, non-subscribers, travelers and visitors in the affected areas.
Jackson County citizens are encouraged to sign up to CivicReady and begin to receive important and emergency information that has potential to save lives and property.
