[ARCHIVED] Property Tax Bills Hit Jackson County Mailboxes

Tax Bills Graphic

Property tax billing statements for all Jackson County property owners will arrive in mailboxes soon according to Tax Collector Janice Sharp. An estimated 60,000 statements will start being mailed the week of December 10, 2018.

Property owners who pay their taxes through a home’s mortgage or other types of loans should not receive a statement. Please check with your mortgage company if you do receive a statement.

Jackson County property taxes are billed through the calendar year. These statements reflect taxes due from Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2018. Taxes are not due now; property owners have until Feb. 1, 2019 to pay their 2018 property taxes without penalties or fines.

ONLY CERTIFIED FUNDS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER June 30, 2019.
This includes cashier check, money order, or cash. All personal checks after this date will be mailed back to the taxpayer.

The Tax Collector reminds residents property taxes paid before Dec. 31, 2018, may be deducted from their 2018 Income Taxes. Taxes can be paid either at the County’s Service Complex in Pascagoula, the West Jackson County Office on Highway 609, through the mail, or online through the County’s website www.co.jackson.ms.us . There is a processing fee when a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card is used to pay taxes. The fee online using the website or through the mail is 2.5%. If you come into the office the fee for a debit card is 1% or $1.00 minimum and for a credit card is 2.5 % or $2.95 minimum.

If someone owes prior year taxes then they should contact the Chancery Clerk’s Land Records division at 228-769-3029. All prior year property taxes must be paid in full before someone can pay their 2018 year property taxes.

Residents with questions about the appraised value of their property need to contact the County’s Assessors Office at 228-769-3199 for more details.
