Public Hearing Redistricting

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING REDISTRICTING FOR JACKSON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Jackson County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to give citizens of the county an opportunity to provide input into the process of redistricting for the board of Supervisors, Election Commissioners, Justice Court Judges and Constables. This public hearing shall be held for the specific purpose of enabling the public to comment on the proposed redistricting process.

The public hearing will be held on the date and at the location as follows:

Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
Board Room
2915 Canty Street
Pascagoula, Mississippi 39567

This hearing is provided to afford the public an opportunity to participate in the redistricting process. In addition, any member of the public may submit any documentation to the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, which will be made a part of the record for this public hearing. You are invited to attend this hearing and offer input into the redistricting process for Jackson County. 

 The hearing will also be livestreamed on the County's Facebook page which can be accessed via the County's website 

About the Redistricting Process (added 6/24/22)

As a result of the 2020 Census, redistricting is required in accordance with applicable state and federal law. The redistricting plan shall comply with the U.S. Constitution, the Mississippi Constitution, and applicable state and federal law, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The plan shall also contain contiguous districts within +/- 5% deviation from the ideal district population.  The JC Board of Supervisors adopted redistricting criteria on Feb. 22, 2022 (See Resolution) and held a Work Session on May 16, 2022.

The Board of Supervisors will NOT be voting on the proposed district lines during the public hearing. Voting will take place during a future Board of Supervisors meeting and the adopted boundary lines will take effect on January 1, 2023.  

 The public hearing is an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the redistricting process. Residents who would like to submit a comment, but are unable to attend the public hearing in person, may email publicrelations@co.jackson.ms.us OR submit via this online form by July 8, 2022. Comments can also be posted during the facebook livestream of the hearing. The proposed maps are available on the County’s website.
